The Media Specialists of the D.C. Everest School District are an integral part of the instructional team preparing students to be responsible citizens in our changing society.
Media Specialists teach students skills in the area of Information Literacy and Technology. In plain English, it means we teach students computer and literacy skills to help them grow up prepared for living and working in a digital world. Media Specialists Improve Student Achievement Research shows that a qualified and certified media specialist has a significant impact on student achievement. "Students in better staffed [library] programs scored as much as 22% higher on standardized English tests...compared to students in schools where library programs had less staff and fewer hours." "Better funded school library programs helped to close the achievement gap for poor and minority students..." Our Mission: "To develop information literacy for all learners." All students must gain the ability to locate and use information for solving problems and communicating ideas in order to become informed citizens. Therefore our school media program wants to ensure that students are empowered to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. |
